NEO Walnut Slug – a specialized configuration with classic appeal

ATA Arms NEO Walnut Slug is an inertia-operated, smoothbore semi-automatic hunting shotgun with a 610 mm barrel. The Slug version is intended for appropriate slug ammunition for smoothbore shotguns. Its Cylinder bore configuration distinguishes it from standard NEO hunting variants supplied with interchangeable choke sets.

The stock and fore-end are made of genuine walnut. The natural grain makes each stock visually distinctive, while the ergonomic profiles support comfortable handling. Dark-finished metal parts provide an elegant contrast with the timber.

Six defining advantages
01 · ACTION
NEO inertia-operated mechanism

Uses recoil energy to cycle the action, without a gas cylinder or operating piston in the fore-end.

02 · BARREL
61 cm Slug configuration

A relatively compact 24-inch barrel with a Cylinder bore configuration, tailored to this specialized variant.

03 · TRADITION
Walnut stock and fore-end

Natural material, comfortable contours and a traditional hunting appearance rather than synthetic furniture.

04 · DURABILITY
Chrome-lined bore

The internal chrome finish contributes to wear resistance and simplifies routine barrel cleaning.

05 · SIGHTING
Fiber-optic front sight

A light-gathering, contrasting sight element designed to remain readily visible in available ambient light.

06 · VERSATILITY
12-gauge Magnum chamber

A 76 mm / 3-inch chamber for suitable factory ammunition approved for this particular firearm.

How does the NEO inertia action work?

The NEO inertia system is built around three major components: the bolt body, inertia spring and rotating bolt head. This mechanism differs fundamentally from a gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun: no propellant gas is diverted to drive a piston under the fore-end.

1
Mechanical lock-up

The rotating bolt head locks mechanically into the barrel assembly using its steel locking lugs.

2
Inertia-powered cycling

The inertia spring and bolt group use recoil energy to complete the automatic operating cycle.

3
Less direct gas fouling

Without a gas piston system, combustion residues are not channelled through a gas port and piston, helping make routine action maintenance straightforward.

Engineering detail: The NEO action uses precisely machined steel components and hard-chromed surfaces to resist wear and corrosion. Reliable cycling depends on suitable ammunition and proper firearm condition.
Slug barrel, sights and materials
61 cm smoothbore with Cylinder constriction

This version has a smoothbore barrel with a Cylinder muzzle configuration. The term Slug describes the intended application; it does not, by itself, mean that the barrel is rifled. This model should not be presented as a fully rifled configuration or as including a five-choke set.

Chrome lining facilitates bore cleaning. The barrel exterior and receiver have a dark protective finish.

Walnut furniture and ergonomics

The walnut stock and fore-end combine familiar sporting aesthetics with shapes intended for secure handling. The fiber-optic front sight complements the specialized barrel layout.

The NEO family also incorporates service-friendly engineering, including a removable trigger assembly for maintenance carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's manual.

Version distinction: NEO Walnut Slug is not the same as the standard NEO Walnut with interchangeable field chokes, NEO Cantilever with its optical mounting arrangement or the gas-operated ATA CY Walnut Slug. This configuration uses an inertia action and Cylinder bore.
Handling features and safety

The NEO platform features a cross-bolt safety behind the trigger, a cartridge-feed control system (cut-off / carrier control) and a serviceable trigger assembly. The cross-bolt safety arrangement can be configured for left-handed use by a qualified professional where supported by the specific firearm.

These features assist with normal operation but never replace safe firearm handling, verification of the gun's condition and compliance with the instructions for the individual firearm.

Intended use and ammunition compatibility

NEO Walnut Slug 12/76 is intended for lawful hunting applications involving an appropriately configured smoothbore Slug barrel. Ammunition must match the firearm markings, barrel type, manufacturer's safety guidance and local hunting regulations.

The 12/76 chamber designation specifies chamber length; it does not guarantee identical cycling with every load or slug design in an inertia-operated shotgun. Use only suitable ammunition approved for the exact firearm, and never assume that parts or accessories from another NEO variant are automatically compatible.
