Silver Pigeon I MY24 – traditional Beretta character with technical and aesthetic refinements

The Silver Pigeon I is one of Beretta’s most recognisable hunting over-and-under shotguns. The MY24 version retains the mechanical architecture of the 680 series while refining details that are noticeable during opening, mounting and movement.

The low receiver profile, balance around the hinge pins and vertically arranged barrels create a natural line between the stock, the shooter’s eye and the rib. Grade 2 walnut and the bright engraved steel receiver preserve the classic hunting appearance, while Steelium, Optimabore HP and Optimachoke HP provide the modern technical foundation.

680 platform A proven low and slim steel receiver with a mechanism developed for durability and dependable long-term use.
71 cm barrels A versatile hunting length providing smooth movement, stable tracking and a practical balance between speed and control.
Updated MY24 styling Richer floral engraving extending across the receiver tail and hinge pins.
Mechanical foundation
Low-profile 680 platform with trapezoidal shoulders and dual conical locking lugs

The barrel monobloc is guided and supported by broad trapezoidal bearing surfaces. When the shotgun is closed, two conical locking elements engage the side recesses of the monobloc and create firm contact between the barrel assembly and receiver.

This system does not require a tall or bulky receiver. The 686 therefore retains its characteristic low profile, positioning the barrel axis closer to the stock line and supporting natural mounting.

1
Hinge pins

The barrel assembly pivots around two side-mounted hinge pins at the front of the receiver.

2
Trapezoidal shoulders

Broad contact surfaces guide the monobloc and stabilise the closing action.

3
Dual locking lugs

Two conical locking elements engage the side recesses of the monobloc.

4
Firm lock-up

Loads are distributed between the main bearing and locking surfaces.

5
Low profile

The compact construction preserves the natural stock and rib alignment.

680 platform Steel receiver Trapezoidal shoulders Dual conical locking lugs Balance around the hinge pins
Distinctive MY24 appearance
Continuous floral engraving with a micro-lined background across the receiver, receiver tail and hinge pins

The updated engraving is produced using five-axis laser technology, allowing the decorative pattern to follow rounded and transitional metal surfaces. The ornamentation therefore does not end abruptly on the side panels but continues smoothly across the surrounding receiver areas.

The floral composition includes leaves, flowers and bunches of grapes developed by Beretta’s master engravers. A fine micro-lined background adds visual depth and defines the main decorative elements.

Five-axis laser Follows rounded metal surfaces while maintaining continuity throughout the design.
Floral theme Leaves, flowers and bunches of grapes in Beretta’s distinctive decorative style.
Micro-lined background Increases visual contrast and creates the appearance of deeper engraving.
Extended coverage The ornamentation continues across the receiver tail and hinge pins.
The bright metal finish highlights the engraved lines and creates a strong contrast with the glossy black barrels and oil-finished walnut.
Steelium and Optimabore HP
71 cm barrels with an 18.6 mm bore diameter and Optimabore HP internal profile
Beretta Steelium Beretta’s barrel manufacturing and processing system, developed for durability, consistent geometry and predictable ballistic performance.
Optimabore HP The internal profile supports a smoother transition of the shot charge and limits abrupt changes during its movement through the barrel.
18.6 mm bore diameter The nominal diameter works together with Optimachoke HP to support consistent shot-pattern formation.
71 cm barrels A versatile hunting length providing smooth movement, stable tracking and practical handling in different hunting conditions.
6×6 mm rib The ventilated top rib maintains a consistent width and provides a clear line along the barrels.
The barrels have a glossy black finish and full side ribs. The contrast between the black barrels, bright engraved receiver and walnut furniture creates the distinctive Silver Pigeon appearance.
Optimachoke HP
Five internal choke tubes for adapting the shot pattern

Configuration A3WD62LD2AA311 is supplied with five internal Optimachoke HP choke tubes. The different constrictions allow the shotgun to be adapted to the distance, ammunition and desired shot-pattern distribution.

I Full tight constriction
II Improved Modified 3/4 constriction
III Modified 1/2 constriction
IIII Improved Cylinder 1/4 constriction
IIIII Cylinder minimal constriction
Important when using steel shot: check the marking on the individual choke tube and follow the ammunition manufacturer’s instructions. Use only combinations approved for the relevant type of steel load, gauge and chamber.
Stock and fore-end
Grade 2 oil-finished walnut, right-handed pistol-grip stock and Schnabel fore-end

The stock and fore-end are made from Grade 2 walnut with an oil finish. The oil highlights the natural structure of the wood without creating a thick lacquer layer between the hand and surface.

The pistol grip positions the hand securely behind the trigger, while fine chequering on the grip and fore-end improves control in wet or cold conditions. The Schnabel fore-end has a distinctively shaped front section and preserves the classic hunting line of the model.

Grade 2 walnut

Selected natural wood with individual colour, contrast and grain pattern.

Oil finish

Highlights the natural texture and permits suitable periodic maintenance.

Right-handed stock

This exact configuration is intended for a right-handed shooter.

35/55 mm drop

The revised geometry supports a higher and more natural head position.

Schnabel

A traditional hunting fore-end with a clearly shaped front section.

Extralight 20 mm

A lightweight flexible recoil pad providing stable shoulder contact.

Walnut is a natural material. Colour, contrast and grain pattern may vary between individual firearms without being considered a manufacturing defect.
Trigger, safety and ejectors
Single selective polished stainless-steel trigger

The trigger controls the two barrels in sequence. The selector is positioned on the upper part of the safety and allows the shooter to choose the upper or lower barrel for the first shot with a short sideways movement.

After the first shot, the mechanism transfers to the second barrel. The polished stainless-steel trigger provides improved surface durability and creates the characteristic bright accent beneath the receiver.

Single trigger

One trigger controls the two barrels in sequence.

Barrel selector

Allows the upper or lower barrel to be selected for the first shot.

Manual safety

The sliding safety is positioned on the receiver tang.

Automatic ejectors

Expel fired cases when the over-and-under shotgun is opened.

Single selective trigger First-barrel selection Stainless steel Manual safety Automatic ejectors
Opening and balance
Redesigned top lever and centre of gravity around the hinge pins

On the MY24 version, the top lever has been redesigned and the release pin repositioned. This reduces the required effort and creates a smoother sensation when opening and closing the shotgun.

The characteristic balance of the 680 series remains concentrated around the hinge pins. Rather than feeling excessively barrel-heavy or stock-heavy, the shotgun moves as one complete system during mounting, tracking and changes of direction.

stock grip trigger hinge pins monobloc barrels front sight
Low receiver

Supports a natural line between the shooter’s eye, rib and barrels.

Central balance

Weight remains concentrated around the hinge-pin area.

6×6 mm rib

Consistent width and a clear sighting line along the barrels.

Full side ribs

Visually and structurally connect the vertical barrel assembly.
