Marttiini (Finland)

Marttiini – Finnish tradition since 1928
Marttiini is not “just another knife”. It is a working tool – built for hunting, skinning, camp tasks, fishing and everyday outdoor use. The Nordic logic is simple: a knife must feel natural in the hand, stay safe and deliver control when it’s cold, wet and time matters. That’s what Marttiini is about.
The Marttiini world at MoskovHunt
At MoskovHunt, we build Marttiini as a strategic brand, not as “just more knives”. We work through direct supply and a partnership channel to secure stable stock, clear lead times and a properly curated selection of series. If you are a shop/partner looking for wholesale terms for Marttiini – contact us and we’ll prepare an offer based on series and volumes.
Where the story begins
The roots are in the North – long winters and nature that doesn’t forgive compromises. Marttiini begins in 1928 and stays true to one idea: a knife must be both beautiful and built to work. That’s why many models are still recognised by their clean lines, practical sheath and natural handle materials.
What makes Marttiini different
  • Nordic puukko heritage – a shape made for control and precision in real tasks.
  • Natural handles in many models – curly birch, birch, heat-treated wood, sometimes antler (depending on the series).
  • Martef coating on selected knives – lower friction, smoother cutting and easier cleaning.
  • Sheaths made to be carried – leather/nylon/plastic (model-dependent), designed for safety and comfort.
  • Warranty – Marttiini provides a 3-year warranty for materials and workmanship, and 1 year for Martef coating.
Materials & technology
Blade steels: how to choose
Marttiini uses several core steel types – each with a practical advantage:
Stainless chromium steel – easy maintenance, very forgiving with moisture, long edge retention and a strong all-round choice.
Carbon steel – excellent for carving and wood work, easy to bring back razor sharp, but requires discipline: dry well and oil lightly after use.
Martef coating (selected models) – repels dirt and moisture, reduces friction and makes cleaning noticeably easier.
Handles: grip, comfort, control
The handle is the connection between your hand and the blade. With Marttiini you’ll see:
  • Curly birch – durable and beautiful with a signature pattern; limited availability makes it premium.
  • Waxed/varnished/stained finishes (model-dependent) – moisture protection and better feel in hand.
  • Rubber handles (certain series) – confident grip in wet, cold conditions and with gloves.
  • Technical polymers (some kitchen/practical series) – hygienic and easy to wash.
Sheath & carry
A sheath is not an accessory – it’s safety. Marttiini builds model-specific sheaths (leather, nylon or plastic depending on the knife), aiming for stable retention and comfortable belt carry. Many leather sheaths include an inner support to help protect the leather from the blade.
Pick a series in 30 seconds
  • Lynx – a true classic; balanced cutting control and comfort. A strong “first Marttiini” choice.
  • Lapp – more robust for demanding camp and heavier tasks, with a secure grip.
  • Fillet / Fishing – flexible, precise tools for fish and fine prep, often tuned for wet conditions.
  • Outdoor – practical all-round models for hiking and everyday outdoor carry.
  • Kitchen – straightforward kitchen series for people who want knives that simply work.
  • Gift / Premium – premium materials and presentation for gifting and collecting.
Care & sharpening
Want your knife to stay “new sharp”? Keep it simple: light sharpening more often beats rare, aggressive grinding. Marttiini commonly uses a base angle around 22° (total). For stone sharpening, a practical guide is: Lynx ~ 0.5 cm, Lapp ~ 0.7 cm between the blade spine and the stone.
Practical rules
  • Clean and dry after each use, especially after meat and moisture exposure.
  • For carbon steel: dry thoroughly and apply a thin coat of salt-free oil (food-grade oil is OK).
  • Do not store the knife wet inside the sheath for long periods.
  • Diamond tools are convenient for many stainless blades; stones and stropping work great for carbon steels.
  • After sharpening, remove the burr with a few firmer strokes at a slightly steeper angle.

Warranty & safety
Marttiini warranty: 3 years for material and manufacturing defects. Martef coating warranty is 1 year.
Safety warning: The knife is sharp and potentially dangerous. Store in a sheath, keep away from children, cut away from your body and keep the blade clean.
Marttiini for partners
If you run a shop/team and want Marttiini on your shelves, we can offer partner terms and help you build the right series mix (Lynx/Lapp/Fillet/Outdoor/Premium). Tell us what your customers buy most, and we’ll recommend the models that sell steadily and position well.
