The classic KS bullet – carefully engineered construction

RWS Kegelspitz (KS) is a traditional hunting bullet featuring a distinctive conical point. The German name Kegelspitz translates to “conical tip”. Its design combines an extended bearing surface, a soft lead core and a tombac jacket with a carefully selected wall-thickness profile. These elements are intended to provide stable flight characteristics and controlled deformation on impact.

Chambered in .270 Winchester and loaded with a 9.7 g / 150 gr projectile, this configuration balances trajectory performance, retained energy and predictable bullet expansion. The KS is a lead-containing expanding hunting bullet, not a solid lead-free or full-metal-jacket projectile.

Conical bullet profile

The aerodynamic shape and extended bearing surface contribute to stable flight and the bullet's potential for excellent accuracy.

Soft lead core

Works together with the jacket geometry to provide a balanced deformation response under varying impact conditions.

Tombac jacket

The variable jacket thickness contributes to controlled energy transfer and relatively low fragmentation.

Rear core-locking section

A constricted rear section helps retain a defined residual bullet mass during expansion.

Ballistic performance of the .270 Win. KS 150 gr

The factory ballistic data for the exact RWS item 2117282 are based on a 600 mm / 23.6 in test barrel. The cartridge develops a muzzle velocity of 896 m/s and muzzle energy of 3894 joules. Its ballistic coefficient is BC 0.345, with a factory maximum point-blank zero reference, designated GEE, of 184 m.

What does GEE 184 m mean?

GEE stands for the German term Günstigste Einschießentfernung, describing an optimum sight-in distance based on a specified trajectory allowance. In the factory table, this corresponds to a trajectory height of +4.0 cm at 100 m. It is a reference value, not a universal sight setting for every rifle.

Understanding the ballistic figures

Velocity, energy and trajectory values are factory references. Actual performance may vary depending on the individual firearm, barrel length, sight configuration, ammunition lot and environmental conditions. The “up to 270 m” performance indication printed on the packaging is a product reference, not a guarantee of identical results under all circumstances.

Complete factory ballistic table

The following figures correspond to the ballistic information printed on the RWS .270 Win. KS 9.7 g / 150 gr ammunition box.

Intended use and caliber compatibility

RWS .270 Win. KS cartridges are designed for hunting rifles chambered specifically for .270 Winchester. Appropriate ammunition selection depends on the game species, firearm characteristics, conditions of use and applicable hunting regulations. The KS design differs from lighter and lead-free projectiles through its lead-core construction and controlled-expansion characteristics.

Important: .270 Winchester is not interchangeable with .270 WSM or other similarly named cartridges. Always use ammunition matching the exact caliber marked on the firearm barrel or specified in its official documentation. Observe applicable restrictions on lead-containing ammunition, including those in force for particular hunting areas.

Frequently asked questions
What type of bullet is the RWS KS?

Kegelspitz (KS) is a conical-point expanding hunting bullet featuring a lead core and a specially profiled tombac jacket. Its construction is designed for predictable expansion and consistent ballistic performance.

How much does the bullet weigh?

The exact factory configuration shown here uses a 9.7 g bullet, equivalent to 150 grains (gr).

What is the factory muzzle velocity?

The published value is 896 m/s, measured using a 600 mm test barrel. Actual velocity may differ depending on the individual rifle and firing conditions.

What does BC 0.345 indicate?

The ballistic coefficient describes a projectile's aerodynamic efficiency in relation to drag. The factory reference value for this specific cartridge is 0.345.

Can this ammunition be used in a .270 WSM rifle?

No. .270 Winchester and .270 Winchester Short Magnum are different cartridges and are not interchangeable.

Can I place an online order or request courier delivery?

No. Online ordering and courier delivery are not available. Ammunition is sold exclusively at the MoskovHunt retail store in Bulgaria, subject to verification of the required documents and compliance with applicable laws.
